99-Points by Robert Parker & Jancis Robinson.

Attelas was planted in 1992 at 1,350 ft elevation in Atlas Peak AVA. Organically farmed – certified in 2016. Volcanic soils. The 2013 Peak Attelas has less Cabernet than all subsequent vintages in order to better distinguish it from the Peak red, since in 2013 they were the only two wines. From 2014 forward the Peak Attelas has a higher proportion of Cabernet as is more representative of the vineyard proportions. Pleasing blend of fruits and herbs, tree bark and crushed rocks with dusty iron accents from nose through palate. Incredibly palate stimulating with a long savoury finish. A nice delivery of rich flavour with fresh, mountain character yet the fine execution of quality bordeaux – that is, it offers an intersection of distinctly Napa mountain flavour, structure, and freshness with the elegant, layered, density of bordeaux craftsmanship. Impressive tannin execution – fine grained and still lightly tactile with a palate-stimulating effect washed through mouth-watering freshness. Nicely done and delicious.

Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec. Aged for 22 months in 100% French Oak, 85% new, Medium/Medium+ toast

  • The founding Acumen team of winemaker Denis Malbec and viticulturists Garrett Buckland were drawn to the mountainside vineyards of Napa Valley's eastern slopes, which have created countless world-class wines. It was here in the rugged Atlas Peak AVA where they set their roots in two unique vineyards with a total of 116 organically farmed acres. The Acumen labels share a glimpse of the inspiring views from their vineyards, both of which have an Old World feel, with bucolic rolling hills and textured rows of mountainside grapevines, surrounded by chaparral and sagebrush.
  • Denis Malbec, a winemaking artist, inspiration and good friend, was born and raised amidst the vineyars and cellar of Chateau Latour, a Bordeaux First Growth in the Pauillac commune of the Medoc. He was Acumen's first winemaker and together with Henrik Poulsen made the Acumen wines through the 2015 vintage. Tragically, in early 2016 he passed away in a car accident. He will be greatly missed and warmly remembered, with the 2013 and 2014 Acumen PEAK wines to bear a subtle tribute on the label in his honor.
  • Acumen lives their belief that the world's best wine are grown in the vineyard, so they feel very fortunate to have their vineyards and winemaking so thoroughly united under the artistry and expertise of  Phillip Titus and supported by their amazing full-time vineyard and winemaking team.

Winemaker Phillip Titus

  • One of the New World’s most distinguished winemakers (Winemaker of the year in 2018) and a master at crafting mountain-grown wines, Titus has spent the past three decades as the winemaker for his family’s Titus Vineyards, and at Chappellet Vineyards, where he has earned acclaim—and numerous 100-point scores—crafting mountain-grown wines on Pritchard Hill.
