93-Point by Robert Parker & James Suckling.

A combination of floral and earthy character here, with aromas of ripe dark and blue fruit and hints of licorice, nut shell and wet earth. Cigar box, too. Medium-bodied, chewy and lingering with bright, vibrant fruit. It has a firm, savory finish with hints of crushed stones. Very typical and true to its terroir.

Blend: 72.5% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% Cabernet Franc.

History of Château de Sales:

Château de Sales is a Bordeaux producer and the largest estate in the Pomerol appellation. It produces Merlot-dominant blends with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and is known as one of the few estates in the region with the kind of historic building more commonly associated with the châteaux of the Médoc.

The property has been in the de Lambert family for more than five centuries, although the château itself wasn't built until the 17th Century. The estate covers 90 hectares (222 acres) of land, with a little more than half under vine. The soils are mostly sandy mixed with fine gravel and patches of clay. De Sales' vineyard is planted roughly 70 percent to Merlot with the rest planted to equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Château de Sales has a reputation for producing wines ready to drink at a young age with only 50-percent of the wine barrel-aged. The estate's second wine is labeled Château Chantalouette.
