96-Point by James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast.

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Bourgneuf sashays out of the glass with expressive notes of crushed black cherries, boysenberries and prunes, plus wafts of melted chocolate, Indian spices and cedar chest, with a hint of cardamom. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of spicy/peppery black fruit preserves, framed by ripe, rounded tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and earthy.

Blend: 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

History of Château Bourgneuf :

Château Bourgneuf (formerly known in some markets as Château Bourgneuf Vayron) is a wine estate in the Pomerol appellation of northeastern Bordeaux, boasting an array famous neighbors. Although it is often overshadowed by the latter, Bourgneuf nonetheless produces a critically well-received Merlot-based grand vin.

The estate has been owned by the Vayron family since the 1840s. Current owners Xavier and Dominique Vayron took over in the 1970s and, although they run the business with their daughter Frédérique, the latter is in de facto control of the estate and winemaking at the property.

The vineyards are spread over nine hectares (22 acres) on the gentle slope of the Pomerol plateau, neighboring Château Trotanoy and Château L'Église Clinet. Soil types vary throughout the vineyard, with pure clay, a mix of clay and sand, and gravel.
