94-Point by Robert Parker, James Suckling & Wine Enthusiast.

The 2016 de Pez appears to be benefitting from a long-term replanting program at the estate. St.-Estèphe is supposed to be a robust and hard wine, but this is elegant and sophisticated with fine, cassis and lemon-peel aromas, polished tannins and a long, rather delicate finish.

Blend: 53% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Petit Verdot and 1.5% Cabernet Franc.

History

The Domain of Pez was originally established in the 15th Century, but the vineyards were added later by the Pontac family (then-owners of Château Haut-Brion) who took over the control of the estate in 1585. It was passed down through generations of the Pontac family until the French Revolution, when it became the property of the French state.

Throughout the 20th century there was a succession of different owners. The current owners, the Rouzaud family of Champagne house Louis Roederer also own Château Bernadotte and Château Haut-Beauséjour in Saint-Estèphe, as well as Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac.
