La Colline du Chateau is pale ruby in colour, finer pitched more saline and direct in profile. Pretty and floral and red fruited. Though high in acidity, the integration here is finer, yielding a wine with a nice linear shape. From vines in the great Schlossberg vineyard, it is named La Colline du Chateau owing to appellation rules which presently don’t permit the mention of a Grand Cru site with Pinot Noir.

History:

Domaine Weinbach is a leading wine estate of the Alsace wine region. Located in the village of Kayersberg, it is known for producing wine from Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Gewürztraminer in a concentrated style.

Unusually for the region, Weinbach produces wine purely from estate-grown grapes. It has holdings in four nearby Grand Cru vineyards on the slopes of the Weisbach Valley – Schlossberg, Furstentum, Mambourg and Marckgrain. Weinbach also owns the famous 5-hectare (12-acre) monopole, Le Clos des Capucins, which surrounds the cellars just below Schlossberg, and the Altenbourg vineyard adjacent to Furstentum. Domaine Weinbach is named after the "wine brook", a small stream that runs through the main property. Constructed in 1612, it is a former monastery of the village.
