The more restrained and attractively cool nose features notes of anise, clove, sandalwood, jasmine tea and a layered mix of red and dark pinot fruit. The focused and admirably intense medium-bodied flavors flash both good minerality and supporting acidity on the youthfully austere and highly persistent finish. I very much like the texture, and this is a classic VRBM.
Les Beaux Monts is a premier cru vineyard of the Vosne-Romanée appellation in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland. A large patchwork of vineyards on the upper mid-slope just above the Echezeaux Grand Cru site, Les Beaux Monts even claims a corner of the Grand Cru for itself. This vineyard is making a full-bodied yet elegant wine with ripe fruit characters.
