95-Points by Burghound.

Intense ruby red colour and an attractive nose offering fresh red fruits, sweet spice, oaky notes and a touch of smoke. The palate is smooth and persistent with fruity, oaky notes that linger on the finish. A remarkably elegant wine with silky smooth tannins and a very distinctive finish.

  • Combe au Moine is a Premier Cru climat of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in the northern Cote de Nuits wine region. This vineyard is one of the most elevated in Burgundy, reaching nearly 400 meters (1,300ft) above sea level. Combe au Moine is bounded by other east-facing Premier Cru climats, Les Cazetiers and Champeaux among them. The wines made here from Pinot Noir are structured and relatively rustic, exhibiting bright red fruit alongside earthy characters. The name of the vineyard, Combe au Moine, means "monk's combe" in French, and is thought to refer to the monks who constructed the nearby Chateau de Gevrey-Chambertin.
  • Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.

"Faiveley’s wines are... supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir... above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker."
