The grapes come from the domaine-owned parcel of 0.12 hectares that produced a single 350-litre barrel in 2021. The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru includes around 50% stems this year. Here the restrained yet ultra-fresh and perfumed nose is cooler still with its plethora of spice, red currant, violet and lilac scents. The super-sleek, lacy and lilting flavors pack excellent punch and an abundance of minerality on the focused and strikingly long finale. This is quite classy and I very much like the balance of this built-to-age Amoureuses.

  • Les Amoureuses is the most famous and highly respected of the 24 Premier Cru climats in Chambolle-Musigny. The site's name translates to "The Lovers".
  • In the opinion of Burgundy expert Clive Coates MW: "a top Amoureuses from a great vintage is a rivetingly beautiful wine". It clearly has the potential to become the village's third Grand Cru site, should the classification ever come up for review. Les Amoureuses Premier Cru wines are noted for their combination of delicacy and intensity, with earthy characters and firm but silky tannins.
  • The vineyard is at the southern end of the Chambolle-Musigny commune. It lies just above the village of Vougeot and below the (Le) Musigny Grand Cru site on the limestone slopes of the Côte d'Or. The vineyard is often considered to be on par with its more highly ranked neighbor. The large Les Charmes vineyard lies along the climat's northern border. Les Petits Vougeots Premier Cru is just to the south.
  • The terroir here is slightly different from that in the more northerly stretches of Chambolle-Musigny. The chalky soil is much lighter at this end of the commune, and is composed of a thin layer of rocky topsoil over a hard limestone subsoil. This drains freely, forcing roots to dig into cracks in the rock. Vigor is controlled and yields are limited, producing small, concentrated berries.
  • Les Amoureuses's slope is stepped, rather than homogenous, although most vines benefit from a southeast exposure. This gives plentiful access to sunlight during the day, with some shelter from the more intense afternoon sun. Grapes are able to reach optimum levels of sugars and flavors prior to harvest. Of course, the cool continental climate means that this ripeness never comes at the expense of acidity, ensuring that Les Amoureuses wines are balanced.
  • The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.
